Position Overview:
- The Project Engineer plays a key role in technical aspects, encompassing engineering, development, and design of components within a product. They are responsible for establishing program specifications and requirements, and overseeing the technical activities of the Designer, Manufacturing Engineer, and Quality Engineer assigned to the program.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver customer design requests to the product designer, ensuring designs meet standards and implementing improvements through Kaizen.
- Create Tool Layout and collaborate with suppliers for Mold design based on Tool Layout. Attend Mold Design Review with TE and incorporate design changes for productivity.
- Participate in mold trial runs, confirming mold structure, process setting, and ensuring products meet dimension and appearance requirements.
- Complete Engineering Change Requests impacting tooling and product pricing, staying within the program budget.
- Maintain documentation on program activity, keeping records in SharePoint, and provide the latest data and drawings to tooling sources and document control.
- Attend whiteboard meetings and Customer builds as requested.
- Lead technical and product quality reviews with the customer and provide inputs for cost-saving suggestions during VA/VE reviews.
- Establish and maintain good working relationships with internal team members and external customers throughout the program.
- Responsible for prototype mold builds and the on-time availability of prototype parts.
- Assure all materials, parts, and products supplied are on time and meet customer requirements from prototypes through production PPAP.
- Handle DV/EV testing responsibility per DVP&R, submit testing requests to the Lab, and work with the Lab for parts testing and product improvement.
- Ensure complete part submission is made on or before the required customer date in conjunction with PDT members.
- Support program integration into SPI Manufacturing, covering part design, tool design and function, manufacturing plan, gage design and function, secondary tooling and design function, and packaging.
Requirements:
Technical Knowledge and Abilities:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Decision-making abilities.
- Proficient in English.
- Knowledge of injection molding operations.
- Knowledge of plastic parts assembly methods.
- Knowledge of plastic parts decoration methods.
- Pass Machine Reasoning Test with 80% correctness.
- Achieve a Wonderlic score of 20 or greater.
Education:
- Engineering degree or certificate of completion of studies, preferably a Bachelor’s degree related to the area of responsibility.
Experience:
- 2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
